LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – A severe thunderstorm roared through Campbell County around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon leaving damage in its wake. The short lived event left a calling card of downed trees and power outages.

“There’s still a lot of trees and brush around the city were getting to them as fast as we can. It’s going to take a few days to get it all cleaned up,” said Director of La Follette Public Works.

Power was knocked out in Downtown La Follette leaving more than 1,500 LUB customers without power for a short time. Damaging wind gusts and downed trees played a role as LUB crews soon restored power.

Traffic lights were out 9th Street and West Central Avenue as well as in the heart of town where Central and Tennessee Avenues intersect.

Downed trees were all too common of a sight on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews with La Follette Public Works were all hands on deck. There was a tree in the road at Loop Road and Blue Drive along with a downed tree over the road at Village Apartments on Loop Road. There was a tree blocking the road at the Country Club, and a tree down stopped traffic on Old Jacksboro Pike while another tree fell on South Avenue near Rose Hill.

“Two large trees fell over West Elm Street, and we cleared those this morning,” said Boshears. That’s in the 1000 block. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/17/2023-6AM)
