LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – Crews began work Thursday morning building tie ins on Shetland Road.

“The contractor for the SR-63 widening will continue the process of constructing side roads. The contractor began constructing Shetland Road’s tie ins on Thursday, May 11,” said Matthew Edens, Operations District Supervisor Operations Division, District 19, with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT.)

It is anticipated this closure of Shetland Road will last approximately two weeks but will be dependent upon weather and subsurface conditions.

The contractor has temporarily closed this side road to complete this work. A closure at this location is necessary to allow the contractor to grade and pave this road. Traffic is temporarily detoured to the nearby side street Middlesboro Road while this work is taking place. It is anticipated this closure will last approximately two weeks but will be dependent upon weather and subsurface conditions.
