JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Eagle Tire Pros salutes one Campbell County educator every week here on WLAF showcasing their outstanding efforts and thanking them for those efforts. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way knowing that teachers make a difference in students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation.

This week’s featured educator is John Philpot. He teaches Fifth grade math and science at Jacksboro Elementary School and has been an educator for 15 years.

Philpot is originally from Jefferson County, TN. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Tusculum College and his Masters in Education and Ed.S. from Lincoln Memorial University. He was also the academic advisor for the Talent Search program at CCHS for two years.

According to Philpot, he was inspired to become a teacher after he “had his own two girls, Hannah and Lily.”

“I enjoyed spending time with them so much that I thought I would love to help children all day,” Philpot said.

His favorite part about teaching is seeing students improve their math and reading skills on a daily basis.

“Another part of my job that I enjoy is showing students that hard work pays off,” Philpot said.

He also enjoys working with his colleagues, who help keep him going, even on the hard days.

“I can always go to my fifth-grade team of Aaron Brown, Kayla Rains, and Jami Sampieri and get an encouraging word from them,” Philpot said.

He teaches Route 66 Sunday School Class at Cedar Hill Baptist Church and taught Sunday School before becoming a teacher.

He attributes teaching Sunday School to preparing him for his career path.
