JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Campbell County High School Senior Faith-Marie Goins made history when she was accepted into the All-State Choir. On April 19, Goins and CCHS Choral Director, Sarah Hunley Ivey, traveled to Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville to participate in the TMEA (Tennessee Music Education Association) Conference.

“While there, Faith-Marie performed with the highest scored high school vocal students across the state and under the direction of Dr. Julie Yu-Oppenheim, Professor of Music at Kansas State University. Faith-Marie is the first student in Campbell County High School history to qualify for this honor,” Hunley Ivey said.

Faith-Marie Goins was accepted into the All-State Choir. On April 19th, Faith-Marie and her director, Sarah Hunley Ivey, traveled to Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville to participate in the TMEA (TN Music Education Association) Conference. Faith-Marie is the first student in CCHS history to qualify for this honor.

Goins said she loves choir, because she loves music. She’s been in band for seven years and choir for three.

“Singing by yourself is one thing, but there is nothing in the world like making music in a group of equally talented, dedicated musicians,” Goins said.

She qualified for All-State after performing in November with the All-East Honors Choir. On November 17, four students from Campbell County High School traveled to Maryville College to perform with the East Tennessee Vocal Association’s All-East Honors Choir.

According to Hunley Ivey, this choir is made up of high school students all over the eastern portion of Tennessee who pass an auditioning and screening process set by the association. This year, every student who auditioned from CCHS made one of the honors choirs.

Senior Faith-Marie Goins represented CCHS in the SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) Choir, senior Benjamin Kohler in the TTBB (tenor/bass) Choir, sophomore Brynna Hall in the SSAA (soprano/alto) Choir and Mackenzie Peavley as the freshmen representative in the Freshman Honors Choir.

“Faith-Marie Goins scored so highly among the area high schoolers who auditioned that she was accepted into the All-State Choir,” Hunley Ivey said.

According to Goins, the competition was “pretty steep.”

While in Nashville, Faith-Marie Goins performed with the highest scored high school vocal students across the state.

“I had to go in a room to sing two prepared pieces, and then had to sing two sight reading sheets that I had never seen. I was shocked at having made All-East, much less All-State. When Mrs. Ivey told me, my mind was blown,” Goins said.

Goins has been a choral student for three years and is a band member as well. She has played trombone for the last seven years under the direction of CCHS’s Band Director Adam Wright and performs with the concert, jazz, and Cougar Marching Band.

Goins also plans on continuing her talents in college and pursuing a career in music.

“She has been accepted to Maryville College where she has been awarded their Dean’s Scholarship due to her impressive academic achievements. Faith-Marie is an excellent representative of her choir family, band family, and of Campbell County High School,” Hunley Ivey said.
