JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Cougar Track and Field athlete Nathan Kniffen signed with Maryville College on Friday afternoon. Kniffen participated in Cougar Track and Field for two years and said he is excited to continue his athletic experiences at the collegiate level.
He chose the school because he liked the campus and because several coaches, including CCHS Athletic Director Matt Price had gone to Maryville, he said.
Kniffen plans to pursue something in the financial field and will “probably get a degree in accounting.”
Athletic Director Matt Price said he knew Kniffen would “represent Campbell County well” while he pursues his academic and athletic goals at Maryville. “I went to Maryville, so I know it’s a great place, and we’re excited for you to continue following your goals,” Price said.
CCHS Head Track Coach Corey Carrington said Nathan had done a “phenomenal job on the track team and for himself” and encouraged him to “keep putting in the hard work and effort.”
“It’s been a lot of fun watching Nathan get better and better,” Carrington said. Coach Chris Shouse who worked with Kniffen his first year in track also spoke on Friday at his signing.
“What sets Nathan apart from the others is his ability to work and get better; he put the time in to get better, and he’s going to go further, it’s something he loves to do,” Shouse said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 04/24/2023-6AM)
