LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Tennessee State Sen. Ken Yager and State Rep. Dennis Powers visited the Campbell County Christian Learning Center (CLC) on Friday to announce current legislation pertaining to the class.

Yager and Powers announced that the CLC’s course offered by Campbell County High School will soon earn students a full credit, rather than the previous half credit that was allotted to those who took the course.

According to Yager, he and Powers sponsored the bill to extend the course to a full credit.

“I hope it encourages more people to sign up, and we’re just so glad to be able to do this,” Yager said.

The bill passed in the Senate’s Education Committee unanimously on Wednesday, which according to Yager, “testifies to how good the program is.”

Yager also publicly thanked Powers for bringing the bill to his attention and for letting him carry the bill in the Senate.

Powers said it was an honor to work with Yager on the legislation and pointed out how far the CLC had come since its beginning in 2015.

“From its start in 2015, and then in 2019, the CLC course began earning students a half credit and now in 2023 it’s a full credit for this wonderful program ” Powers said.

“What you are doing is so valid and important, and we’re so glad you have this opportunity,” Yager said.

The two legislative officials took time to talk with students about the legislation and the importance of supporting initiatives like the CLC. They also shared valuable lessons with the students from their own lives about their faith, “and never giving up, despite struggles or hard times.”

“I want God’s word to be a light unto my feet and a light unto my path, ” Yager said.

The CLC is located on the grounds of Hillcrest Baptist Church next to the Campbell County High School campus. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/20/2023-6AM)
