Derrek’s Place Pawn is celebrating 28 years in business this month! The business is owned by Derrek Bowman.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Derrek’s Place is WLAF’s business of the week. The Pawn Shop is celebrating 28 years in business this month. 

According to owner Derrek Bowman, the business pawns and sells a wide variety of items, including gold, silver, jewelry, coins, guns, knives, musical equipment, tools, electronics and much more.

“We also have smart TVs, chainsaws, guitars and sometimes motorcycles,” Bowman said. Currently he has a Yamaha V-Star that will be displayed soon.

Derrek’s Place Pawn Shop has everything from musical instruments and equipment to tools, knives, coins, chainsaws, guns and more!

The inventory changes daily, and there’s always some great deals on tons of items! 

Bowman said he began the business shortly after he graduated college with his Engineering degree.

Derrek’s Place opened in 1995.

“I had just got done with school and was praying about what to do and a jewelry salesman came by my mom and dad’s jewelry store and had some interesting information and brochures about the pawn broker business, and I remember it just felt right, so that’s when I decided to open up a pawn shop,” Bowman said. 

Over the past 28 years, the pawn business has been an “interesting one” where Bowman has had the chance to meet all kinds of people and see all kinds of merchandise. 

Derrek’s Place Pawn Shop has everything from musical instruments and equipment to tools, knives, coins, chainsaws, guns and more! Even Motorcycles such as this Yamaha V-Star!

“You never know what you’ll see or what people will bring in; years ago people would try to pawn boa constrictors or pythons and that was a big no,” Bowman said with a laugh. 

He also said he wanted to say thank you to all of his customers over the years for their support.

Right beside Stop Light 8 in Downtown LaFollette is where Derrek’s Place Pawn Shop has been for 28 years.
