JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It wasn’t until 8th grade that Bryson Dotson became interested in fishing. He’s been so interested that he’s developed his skills into championship form. On Friday, he signed to fish at Bryan College for the Lions. HERE is a related story to Bryson Dotson’s scholarship signing.

Father Jason Dotson: “He started night fishing with me and Dan, Dan Terry, and Dan sparked his interest,” said Jason Dotson, Bryson’s dad. Bryson really looks up to Dan and former Cougar Riley Faulkner, according to the elder Dotson. Faulkner fishes at Carson-Newman University.”

Mother Breiann “Brei” Dotson: “I cried this morning, Friday morning ahead of the signing,” said Brei Dotson, Bryson’s mom. I didn’t cry when I took him to pre-school, but I am now she adds. Brei calls him her partner of all of her sons as she shed tears on Brown Court, tears of joy on a bittersweet occasion.”

Campbell Fishing Coach Gabe Keen: “Bryson has fished more tournaments than anyone we’ve had. He’s been out fishing about every weekend anywhere from Virginia to Alabama on many bodies of water. I wouldn’t trade that. He’s fourth in overall points in the Bass Pro Shops Series where more than 200 boats competed at Fort Loudon. Last weekend (March 4) at Chickamauga, he finished 25th out of about 130 boats in the TBN Tourney.”

Campbell Director of Athletics Matt Price: “Bryson is our fifth fisherman to go to Bryan, and that’s a huge honor. Overall, we’ve had nine student-athletes go to Bryan College, and that’s a great representation of CCHS and our entire community.”

Grandparents Cathy and Paul Muse: “He likes to fish like his dad. We’re so very proud. He also has his two years in at Roane State (Community College).”

Bryson Dotson is joined by his three brothers, mother and father along with the Keens and his grandparents, Cathy and Paul Muse.

Bryan Fishing Coach Mike Keen: “We’re happy as well, and I felt like I knew Bryson before I met him (hearing from his son, Gabe). He’s a good addition and will fit in well. Bryson will join former Cougar Matt Dopp on our team.”

Bryson plans to major in marketing. “Fishing is a tool that will help him gain a degree that’ll help him in life. It’s been worth the investment,” said Jason Dotson. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/13/2023-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF WLAF’S JOSH PARKER)
