JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – Today, we’re looking back at Campbell County history some 50 years ago. Back in the early 1970s, moonshining was still a big business in this area.

Campbell County Deputy Joe Lindsay, Constable Jim Henegar and Campbell County Sheriff Rose “Blue Eyes” Kitts are pictured above with the haul they made during a raid at Elmer Allen’s home in Newcomb on May 2, 1972. The investigators gathered 1,253 glass and plastic jugs.

Allen was charged but escaped into the mountains before he could be arrested. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/02/2023-6AM)
