JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – The Campbell Cougars lost their final game of the regular season as the Whitley Colonels took the final lead change of the game and hung on for the victory Friday night on Brown Court. The Colonels scored 21 of the last 29 points after trailing 55-52 to win 73-63.

There were seven lead changes and six ties in this interstate rivalry game between Whitley of Kentucky and Campbell of Tennessee. Campbell’s largest lead was seven while Whitley’s was ten.

Whitley led 21-19 after one while Campbell outscored the Colonels in the second quarter 17-11 to hold a 36-32 halftime lead. After an 18-14 Whitley third, the game was knotted at 50. The Colonels posted 23 fourth quarter points to the Cougars 13.

Adama Sanogo was tops for Campbell with 17 while David Adkins poured through 15 points followed by Devon Jones and John Long with 13 points each. Gavin Cox knocked down a big three.

Unless the Cougars can make it to the district tournament championship game like it did last season, Friday’s home game was the last on Brown Court for the year.

Campbell, 12 & 15, is the 6th seed in the District 3-AAAA Tournament and faces third seed West on Wednesday at 6pm at Powell High. WLAF will have the live audio only coverage. Whitley’s regular season continued Saturday with an 86-77 win at Russell Springs over the Lakers and will host the Black Bears of Harlan County on Tuesday ahead of its district tournament next week. Whitley is 19 & 7.
