JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – There was a time when Campbell and Oak Ridge regularly battled for supremacy in District 3 in the 1970s and ’80s. Thursday night on Brown Court, memories of those past grudge games were stirred for older Cougar fans. Not since 1999 has Campbell outscored Oak Ridge for a win, and this morning that run by the Wildcats continues. Barely. Last night’s game hung in the balance until the Oak Ridge game winning shot was made at the final horn. The ‘Cats scratched out a 63-61 win and escaped with the victory.

Devon Jones, in his first game back from injury, made the biggest shot of the night for Campbell as he ripped the ropes for a long, long three from the right side of the key to tie the game at 61 with 16 seconds to play. Rayquan Watson, who scored all seven of his points after halftime, worked his way into the heart of the lane and knocked down a six footer over outstretched arms to boost Oak Ridge to the W.

Jones was the game’s top scorer with 19, posting 16 points in the second half. Gavin Cox and John Long tallied 13 each while Adama Sanogo chipped in 11. David Adkins three and Luke Browning’s two rounded out the scoring.

The Lady Cougars dropped their last regular season district game to Oak Ridge by a final of 67-34. Lacey Pemberton was tops for Campbell with 10 followed by eight from Emma Brandenburg, seven from Saylor Hutcheson, Carley Kitts four and three from Reagan Davis.

The Cougars are 8 & 14 finishing the district schedule winless through 10 games. Campbell will be the sixth seed in the district tournament opening play on Wed., Feb. 15, at 6pm. A won-loss mark of 9 & 16 is where the Lady Cougars stand to go along with a 3 & 7 district record. On Tue., Feb. 14, at 7:30pm, is when the Lady Cougars open district tournament action. All district tournament games will be played at Powell at Hunter Gym.
