LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – LaFollette Police Detective-Sergeant Noah Riggs was on patrol when he noticed Cody Wayne Young on West Central Avenue. Riggs knew Young from prior contacts and checked his name through dispatch where he learned the man had outstanding warrants through Campbell County Criminal Court.

It was January 25 when Young was riding a bicycle on South 7th Street with a black backpack on his back. Riggs turned on his blue lights on his patrol car, and Young threw down his bicycle. Riggs got out of the patrol car and yelled for Young to stop, but he continued running into a wooded area. Riggs continued pursuing him and yelling for him to stop. Riggs was joined in the pursuit by Officer Anthony Mahar at the underpass on North 5th Street. After a short foot chase, Riggs had to forcefully take Young to the ground. When Young was on the ground, he got back on his feet and took a closed fist swing at Riggs. He was put on the ground again and would not give Riggs his hands to be handcuffed and kept attempting to reach into his pockets. Riggs could see a screwdriver and knife that was clipped onto Young’s pants pocket. After a brief struggle, Young was placed in handcuffs but continued to attempt to reach into pockets. Riggs recovered two black zip containers that contained three syringes, two glass pipes, three spoons with cotton filters, one metal pipe and rubber container with a brownish color substance.

Young, 25, 308 East Prospect Street, LaFollette was charged with possession of schedule II controlled substance, evading arrest, assault, resist stop, frisk, halt, arrest, or search, possession of schedule V controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
