It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Maurice Hunter announce his sudden passing on Tuesday January 24th, 2023 at the age of 72. In his final days he was surrounded by his family who adored him more than anything in this world.

Walter will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, the love of his life, Phyllis Jane Hunter, his daughter Whitney Nicole Hunter (Kitchell), his son Joseph Maurice Hunter, son-in-law David Scott Kitchell, his grandsons Logan Tyler Hunter, Nathan David Kitchell, Jacob Charles Kitchell, Brice Austin Kitchell, his nephews Kendall Robert Hill, Jason Eric Hill, Bradley Todd Hill, and many other family and friends.

Walter is preceded in death by his loving parents Charles Maurice Hunter, Charles Robert Hunter and Eva Mae Hunter, His sister Pamela Sue Hill and brother-in-law Johnny Ray Hill and his nephew Johnny Scott Hill.

Walter touched the lives of so many people, being an encouragement and motivation to all he met. He inspired his family and students to believe in themselves. He had a way with people like no other, making friends everywhere he went. Walter had many titles in his life – Barber, Educator, Devoted Tennessee Vols Fan. But his favorite role of all was being a grandfather (Paps). He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandsons. Walter’s most prized possession was his 1969 Torino Cobra restoration project which will be finished by his grandsons in his honor and taken to car shows in his memory. All who loved him dearly will never forget his wit, charm, and undying love for them.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Walter will be buried beside his family in Jacksboro, TN in a private ceremony.
