LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – So just how do you protect yourself from holiday scams? Community Trust Bank’s first priority is protecting your identity and personal information and offers some helpful tips.

Community Trust Bank’s goal is to ensure its customers feel confident using its banking services. This holiday season don’t let scammers rob you of your hard-earned money, personal information, or your festive mood.

Here are some helpful tips to help you outsmart the bad guys and avoid scams this holiday season.

If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be from the bank, always remember that we will never ask you for confidential information. Please do not share your online banking one time security code with anyone. We will never call you and ask for it.  Check your statement regularly. If you see a suspicious transaction, contact us immediately. Never wire money directly to an online seller.  With all of the holiday shopping ads coming to your email inbox, consider using more than one email address – use one with close friends and family, and another for shopping or newsletters. Only give out information if you made the call to a phone number that you know is legitimate. While shopping online, always ensure that a website is secure by checking to see whether there is an “s” after the “http” in the address and a lock icon at the bottom of the screen. These and other great tips to prevent fraud can be found on the Community Trust Bank website. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/15/2022-6AM)
