KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Halls lead first and last in Friday night’s non-district home game with the Campbell County Lady Cougars. Though it was that last make that mattered most as Halls delivered a dose of heartburn to the Lady Cougars in the form of a 53-52 win.

Three-straight treys from Bella Lester triggered a 16-6 run for the Lady Cougars as Campbell stretched a five-point halftime advantage to 12 late in the third quarter. Even though the Lady Cougars held a 52-50 edge with almost all the time gone, it was Halls scoring 23 of the last 33 points of the contest including the buzzer beating deep corner three by Sophie Tharpe.
Campbell’s largest lead was 12 at 42-30 while Halls biggest margin was two. However, one proved to be the biggest number in the 53-52 Halls win.
The Lady Cougars outscored Halls 13-7 in the opening quarter, Halls had a 14-13 second quarter making the halftime score 26-21 in favor of Campbell. It was a 16-14 third quarter in Campbell’s favor as the Lady Cougars took a 42-35 lead into the fourth quarter that ended up belonging to Halls. The Lady Red Devils outpaced Campbell 18-10 in the last eight minutes.
Lester was tops for Campbell with 15 while Saylor Hutcheson posted 11 points as Emma Brandenburg put up 7 and 6, points and rebounds. Four points each came from Lacey Pemberton, Destiny Rutherford and Reagan Stanfill. Carley Kitts had three points while Lexi Morris and Regan Davis each played and did not score.
Campbell County’s four-straight road games continue tonight at Morgan County. The Lady Cougars visit Sunbright.
