LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Teachers make a difference in their students lives each and every day. For many students, having a teacher who cares and goes that extra mile can be the difference in a successful education and graduation. We’ve all had that teacher who inspired us or helped in some way. That’s why WLAF and Eagle Tire Pros salute all of our hard working educators with a weekly feature.
This week’s featured teacher, Karen Ingram, grew up in LaFollette and attended LaFollette Middle School and Campbell County High School.
Ingram obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee.
She teaches 7th grade English at LaFollette Middle School, and she is in her ninth year as an educator.
“I am so thankful to be teaching in my hometown, and I love LMS,” Ingram said.
She had three teachers of her own that “influenced” her “teaching style.”
“Jason Horne, Lisa Copeland and, David Jones are great teachers who showed me how to build and maintain relationships with students, make the learning environment fun and engaging, and hold students to high expectations. These are traits that I believe to be very important as a teacher,” Ingram said.
Her favorite part of teaching is the relationships she has with her students.
“I love talking to them between classes, at break, or after school events. I make sure my students know how much I care for them as much as I can,” Ingram said.
Something positive that keeps her going, even on hard days. is when she gets help from LaFollette Middle School’s “amazing 7th grade team and administration,” as well as her students who make her “laugh and smile each day.”
“Then at the end of each day, my wonderful husband is always there to listen and support me in any way that he can,” Ingram said.
Every Thursday, WLAF’s Charlotte Underwood features the WLAF – Eagle Tire Pros teacher of the week. That educator also receives a free oil change from Eagle Tire Pros.
