KNOXVILLE, TN (WLAF) – From now through November, it is baby copperhead snake season, according to officials with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).

If you are hiking or walking, be sure to look carefully where you step or place your hands. Baby copperheads are small and like to hang out in damp places like logs on the trail or flowerpots in your yard.

If you’re ever bitten by a snake, keeping these tips in mind might save your life.

  1. Call an ambulance immediately. …
  2. Don’t panic and don’t move. …
  3. Leave the snake alone. …
  4. Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage and splint. …
