LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The Honorable Doug Overbey was Tuesday’s guest speaker at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon at the LaFollette United Methodist Church. He was introduced by Rotarian Shirley Fox-Rogers. It was his third time speaking at Rotary.  

Overbey formerly served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee from 2017 to 2021. Prior to that, he represented District 2 in the Tennessee Senate from 2009 to 2017. He served as chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee and vice-chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. He co-founded the Robertson-Overbey law firm in 1982 and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Tennessee College of Law. Overbey also served in the Tennessee House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008.

He spoke about leadership and the three main principles, in his opinion, that make a “good leader.”

Rotarian Shirley Fox-Rogers introduced Tuesday’s guest speaker the Doug Overbey at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon at the United Methodist Church in LaFollette.

According to Overbey, “to be a good leader, you have to be a good follower.”

The Doug Overbey was Tuesday’s guest speaker at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon.

“Leadership is also about taking care of our neighbors … it’s about having a relationship with God. He uses us at different times, in different ways; you become a leader by allowing God to work through you. To be a leader, you have to make sacrifices to exhibit leadership. You have to do justice, to have mercy and to walk humbly through God,” Overbey said.

Janet Henry was inducted into the South Campbell County Rotary Club as the newest member. Her name had been proposed by Rotarians Larry Tanis and Rayma Daugherty, who welcomed her into the club. Henry is the Executive Director of the Campbell County Christian Learning Center.

Purple Pinkie Day is Wed., Oct. 12. The South Campbell County Rotary Club participates in this project each year to raise funds and awareness in the fight against Polio.
