LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On Saturday, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Phillips was traveling on Central Avenue in LaFollette when he noticed Ronnie Austin Daugherty walking westbound. Deputy Phillips knew that Daugherty had a warrant for his arrest and confirmed the warrant with the county jail.

Phillips radioed Sergeant Noah Riggs with the LaFollette Police Department for assistance. Phillips along with LaFollette officers attempted to stop Daugherty, but he fled on foot. Daugherty ran down the alley way that runs between East Ash Street and East Central Avenue. He then turned between buildings and ran across the four lanes of Central Avenue through moving traffic. Daugherty continued to flee on foot, onto North. 1st Street near Pyro Shows until LaFollette Police Officer Shane Tielman was able to apprehend him, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

After he was apprehended, Daugherty said he ran because he knew he had a warrant and he didn’t want to go back to jail, continuing that he knew he would be in jail for a while.

Daugherty, 23, 216 McGhee Lane, Caryville was charged with violation of probation (criminal court) and evading arrest. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/29/2022-6AM)
