HARROGATE, TN (WLAF) – Monday evening found the Cougars at the LMU campus in Harrogate to take on the Knights of J. Frank White Academy.  Junior transfer, Kiersten Witherspoon scored the first point of the match with a strong shot.  Sage Elwin followed up with a goal of her own. Kiersten and Sage would each score once more in the first half leaving the score 4-0 at the half. See Amber’s full photo gallery of 105 pictures from the Monday and Tuesday games HERE.

It seemed all cylinders were firing as the second half began.  The defense held their line with keeper Jordan Asher successfully guarding the goal for the few shots that made it to her.  Her strong drop kick was an aid to the awaiting forwards to continue their attack.  Four more goals were scored during the second half evenly split between Cheyenne Davis, Kylie Ivey, Sage Elwin and Brianna Kitts.  The Cougars came away with a win 8-0.

Union County had other plans for the Cougars on Tuesday night.  The Patriots were able to score on the Cougars’ defense three times within the first ten minutes of the match.  This onslaught seemed to awaken the Cougars somewhat.  With Kylie Ivey assuming the role of keeper, the team rallied and were able to take a few shots on goal and did not give up another point until late in the the first half.  The Cougars were unable to get a goal during the first half and the Patriots added two more, the Cougars went into the half trailing 5-0.

During the second half neither team were able to assert any dominance until the thirtieth minute when the Patriots scored off a corner kick that hit the cross bar and landed inside the goal.  The Lady Cougars never gave up however which lead to Zaylyn Ivey scoring off an assist from teammate Khloe Hatfield.  The final score was 8-1.

Thursday holds an away game as the Lady Cougars travel to Anderson County to round out a very busy and physical week. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 09/14/2022-6AM)
