DUFF, TN (WLAF) – On Monday night, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Grace Cross noticed a vehicle driving on State Route 9 (Highway 25W) with a passenger side headlight out. Cross stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver identified as Darryl Jay Stanford. A check of the man’s driver’s license through dispatch came back as revoked for DUI. The check also revealed he had eight prior driving on revoked for DUI.

When Stanford was asked to step out of the vehicle, he allegedly stated that he had been paying to be reinstated but had no paperwork on hand and also had a ignition interlock device inside the vehicle. Dispatch was unable to find any reinstatement record since 2020. At this point, Stanford was placed under arrest and searched. During the search Cross found $1,138 in Stanford’s front left pocket.

After the search of Stanford, Cross spoke with the passenger in the vehicle identified as Amanda Jean Campbell trying to find out if she would be able to drive the vehicle instead of getting it towed. Campbell stated that she did not have a driver’s license and did not have identification on her, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

When Cross first made contact with Stanford, she had noticed a yellow purse in the possession of Campbell. But when she came back to the vehicle the purse was gone. While inventorying the vehicle, Cross found the purse stuffed behind the passenger seat. Inside the purse was a wallet with identification of Campbell, along with two fake one hundred dollar bills. Inside of a change purse was a small clear plastic baggie with a brown powder like substance believed to be Heroin. The purse pouch had three needles, one of them was loaded with a brown like liquid substance believed to be Heroin, in it. In another change purse, Cross found $259. Also found was a scale and a notebook full of numbers.

Deputy Cross interviewed Campbell where she stated that everything in the purse was hers.
