NEWCOMB, TN (WLAF) – Recently, Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Dakota Williams was conducting radar on Hwy 297 around Creekmore Housley Road when he saw a red Chevy S10 traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked at 58 mph in a 30 mph zone, and Williams attempted to catch up with the truck going into the City of Jellico.

Williams saw the driver failing to maintain its lane by crossing over the center line three times. It was around 4:30am on July 16 when Williams stopped the S10 at the corner of South Main Street and Church Street, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

The deputy made contact with the driver and noticed he was not wearing his seatbelt and was allegedly reaching with his right hand in between the middle seat of the vehicle in what appeared to be an attempt to conceal something from Williams.

The driver, identified as Joshua Darrell Bowlin, was asked for his driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance; he only had his driver’s license. Williams confirmed through dispatch that his registration was expired, and he did not have valid insurance on the vehicle. Williams searched the truck and found a small medicine bottle with a label on it between the middle seat where Bowlin was reaching earlier. Inside the bottle were allegedly two small baggies containing a brown like substance believed to be Heroin.

Bowlin, 34, 475 Main Street, Jellico was charged with reckless driving, drivers to exercise due care, speeding, violation of TN financial law, violation registration law, failure to maintain lane, seatbelt law and possession of schedule I controlled substance. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/25/2022-6AM)
