HARRIMAN, TN (WLAF) – It was a thrilling finish for the Caryville All-Stars on Sunday afternoon.  With the win, the Blue Jays keep their season and shot for a state championship alive. Monday’s semi-final game was postponed due to rain and storms and now is scheduled to be played Tuesday at 2pm featuring Caryville and Sweetwater. David Graham will have the live telecast via his Facebook page. A win for the Blue Jays sends them to a 6pm title game this evening with Greenbriar.

Caryville switched pitchers in what was a tie game at three, and once Koalton Cupp became comfortable on the mound, the strikeouts followed.  The Blue Jays had the last at bat in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Riley Gunter led off with a triple smacking a hit between left and centerfield sending it all the way to the wall.  Jack Sexton then stepped to the plate and laid down a bunt up the first base line.  Sexton knocked Gunter home, and Caryville claimed the win by a final of 4-3.

The three remaining teams in the tournament, Caryville, Greenbriar and Sweetwater, have a loss and finished Sunday in a tie. The tourney director let all three coaches draw a play slip or a bye slip, and Greenbriar drew the bye. The winner of Tuesday night’s game (postponed from Monday) between Caryville and Sweetwater plays Greenbriar for the championship likely on Wednesday at 11am.

Tuesday’s semi-final game starts at 2pm.  David Graham continues his live televised coverage via his Facebook page.  This marks the fifth game in five days for both teams.

“No, other Dixie Youth League team from Campbell County has ever made it this far,” said Coach Tim Malicote. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/18/2022-6AM-UPDATED 07/18/2022/4PMPHOTOS COURTESY OF DAVID GRAHAM)
