LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – As the radio spot on WLAF said back in the day, Hack’s Bargain Barn is at the corner of Beechand Indiana Ave in downtown Lafollette.

That’s what we’re looking at from this image (up top) from the 1960s. Hack opened here in 1957 and sold used furniture and appliances and later started selling new merchandise.

This building has served in many capacities. It was once the Lafollette country club with a spring fed pool behind it about where the church fellowship hall is now. It also served as a local union hall also a skating rink and even as the Sky Way Trucking Co terminal. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 07/14/2022-6AM)

  1. Great photo! My dad worked here for a short time and I remember going in and being amazed at all of the cool things they had, esp. in the basement!

  2. WHEN I WAS A SMALL CHILD OF ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD…I REMEMBER CLIMBING ALL THE STEPS TO GO TO CHURCH THERE ….MR. SILAS SWEAT AND MY PAPPA PAUL WERE THE ONES THAT TOOK ME…THEY AT THE TIME GAVE OUT SMALL CARDS ABOUT JESUS….PRECIOUS MEMORIES…I DO NOT REMEMBER WHO THE PREACHER WAS..MADE AN IMPRESSION ON ME THAT I HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN. AND THEN WE BOUGHT OUR FIRST COUCH FROM HACK AYERS WHO HAD A FURNITURE STORE THERE….
