LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Rotarian Logan Hickman spoke briefly at Tuesday’s South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon about District Rotary and Rotary International. Campbell County is in District 6780. There are 529 districts in Rotary International.

Hickman gave a short history of Rotary and how the club first began in Chicago, Illinois, in 1905 by Paul P. Harris.

Rotary’s popularity spread in the decades that followed and there are now about 46,000 clubs and 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide, according to Hickman. “You all are part of a big organization worldwide, and we are in an excellent district known for its leadership,” Hickman said. Since 1905, Rotary District 6780 has had three of its members become Rotary International presidents.

He also spoke about Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and the South Campbell County Rotary Club will once again be participating.

“We always send two 11th graders to this and will be doing so again this year, ” Hickman said.
