LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – For many who may not know, this was the view on the four lane on Highway 25W and Towe String Road.

The house behind the Key Limestone billboard is now where Walgreens is. This roadway was built to replace the old road, the two lane road that runs in front of Lyk-Nu Auto Collision and Service Center, and you travel under the railroad underpass, the Skyway Bridge.

The four lane road was completed in the 1950s. There were very few businesses on this stretch of roadway until the 1970s. Some of the early businesses were Lay’s Bar, Leon’s Esso, later Leon’s Exxon, La Follette Monument, Sharp’s Phillips 66, The Colonial Restaurant and motel along with the Birdwell Motel and Sharp’s Motel. 1. Neat! Was never on this side of the lake until the 90’s and now live east of LaFollette. I like seeing these old photos and learning when certian roads were built/ update etc.
