LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has a career explorer program for high school students to take a survey and be matched with companies and mentors in their fields of interest.

According to BSA Mount Cammerer District Volunteer Chairman and and Explorer Chairman Steve Hillis, the program is open to males and females and is a career interest exploring program open to students in Campbell and Claiborne County.

The survey has over 250 career choices and if enough interest is shown in any certain career choice, Hillis said they would try to establish Career Exploring Posts and Partnerships in those areas.

For example, partnerships with law enforcement agencies, fire departments, businesses and organizations and local colleges and vocational schools will be forged to create learning posts to match with student career interests.

The BSA Exploring program offers “experience education” for students to be able to explore different careers and roles at local companies and organizations.

The program provides real-life education and allows students to pick two career choices.

“That way, if they aren’t liking one, they can transfer interest in multiple options,” Hillis said.

According to Hillis, the survey can be filled out in about 10 minutes and can be done online from a cell phone.

If enough interest is shown in the program, Hillis said he hopes to have students matched with career choice learning outposts and mentors by fall.

“This is a way for students to support their studies and their interests and learn what career paths they are interested in,” Hillis said.
