LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Of all we see everyday on the roads, the sight of a man carrying a cross certainly was an attention getter this afternoon along the four lane.

WLAF News caught up with Pastor Dan as he moved quickly down West Central Avenue in front of the Rice Oil West End Marathon. He stopped to visit and pass along his message that “The Lord is coming.”

As looked to the mostly sunny sky, he said, “The Lord is with me. The Lord provides.” The cross is made of gutter and tape with a wheel on one leg for easier carrying, rolling.

Jellico is his next stop.

“I’m from Delaware, but I was raised in Virginia,” said Pastor Dan. He’s now in his seventh year of his cross carrying mission around the country. From the east coast to the north and south to Texas and Louisiana, he’s covered some ground.

He spent the night at a motel a couple of towns back last night. “It gives me a good chance to rest and freshen up before I start out again,” said the 59-year old man.

Susan Byrge of Jacksboro shared a few bottles of water with Pastor Dan. The two visited for a couple of minutes.

“I’ve recently been to Miami, Florida, and my next stop is Jellico. I know my turn is coming up soon,” he said as he looked toward town. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/13/2022-3PM)
