LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Candie Roberts will present the Brent Ellison Memorial Scholarship (Mason Humphrey – $1,000 and Leah Sanders – $1,000).

Laura Byrge will present the First Volunteer Bank Scholarship (Cora Browning – $500 and Nate Walden – $500).

Logan Hickman will present the CCHS Relief Fund/Nolan Baird Memorial Scholarship (Eliza Johnson- $1,500).  He will also present the CCHS Relief Fund/Ken Bruce Memorial Scholarships (Cora Browning – $1,500 and Mason Humphrey – $1,500). 

Rayma Daugherty, President of the South Campbell County Rotary Club, will present the Rotary Scholarships (Connor Martin – $1,000 and Yamel Vera – $1,000). She will also present the United Cumberland Bank Scholarship (Cora Browning – $500).

Ben Foust will present the Louis Henry and Beatrice Sturm Memorial Scholarship at the University of Tennessee (Gina Isber – $2,000 and Kylie Clawson – $2,000).   He will also present the Joy of Manufacturing/STEM Scholarships (Audrey Bishop – $1,000; Rachel Branam – $1,000; Cora Browning – $1,000; Eliza Johnson – $1,000; Connor Martin – $1,000; Garrett Medley – $1,000; Levi Myers – $1,000; Lily Peace – $1,000; Jesiah Torres – $1,000; Abby Zapien – $1,000).

After Stephanie, Josh will recognize Cora Browning as a Ready Graduate, and for graduating with both Honors and Distinction. Katherine will hand her the green, silver, and orange honor cords. He will also say that Cora has been selected as a recipient of Milligan University’s Academic Scholarship worth $14,500 per year for a total of $58,000. She has also been awarded a basketball scholarship at Milligan worth $10,000 per year for a total of $40,000.

Katherine Ayers will present The Judge Lee Asbury Memorial Scholarship (Audrey Bishop – $500). She will also present the Power Play Scholarship Association’s award for $4,000 to Cole Williams.

Jennifer Selm will present the Deerfield Firecracker 5K Scholarship (Jesiah Torres – $2,500).

Shelley King will present the Vic King Memorial Scholarship (Sadie Cox – $1,000).

Dewayne Baird will present the Peoples Bank Scholarship (Riley Faulkner – $1,000 and Maddison Wright – $1,000).

BEN WILL SAY:

All seniors were eligible to apply for the Tennessee Promise Scholarship, a last-dollar scholarship which will pay for two years of tuition at any community college in Tennessee.  This is the twelfth year that this scholarship has been available to Campbell County students.  I am happy to announce that 250 seniors remain eligible for Tennessee Promise.  If you are a Tennessee Promise scholarship recipient, please stand and accept our congratulations.

Seniors who will be graduating WITH HONORS have at least a 3.0 GPA and have met or surpassed certain benchmarks on the ACT.  These students have scored at least an 18 in English, a 21 in Reading, a 22 in Math, and a 24 in Science.  These students will wear a silver honor cord at graduation.

We also have seniors who will graduate WITH DISTINCTION.  Those qualifications include a minimum of a 3.0 GPA, as well as having met at least one of the following criteria:  12 hours of earned postsecondary credit; national industry certification in a career and technical education subject area; attendance at a Tennessee Governor’s School; a 31 composite score on the ACT; or a score of 3 or above on 2 Advanced Placement Exams.  These students will wear an orange honor cord at graduation. 

Green honor cords are for students who have met qualifications to be considered a “Ready Graduate” by the State Department of Education. These students can qualify by meeting one or more of the following criteria:

  • A score of 21 or higher on the ACT
  • The completion of four early postsecondary opportunities
  • The completion of two early postsecondary opportunities AND earning an industry credential; OR
  • The completion of two early postsecondary opportunities and a earning a score of military readiness on the ASVAB test.
