JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Sadie Cox started playing golf “as soon as she could walk.” Her whole family plays golf and so it just came “second nature” to her. Now she’s using those golfing skills to also get her medical school degree by signing scholarship papers with Lincoln Memorial University.

She put pen to paper, signing to play for the Railsplitters Wednesday morning in the CCHS Auditorium.

She will be attending school there as a pre-med student in the fall and has “already been accepted into their medical school program.” Cox said she plans to be a trauma surgeon.

Sadie Cox signed to play Golf at LMU this fall. She is pictured here with her family on signing day. Parents Becky and Richard Cox said they were “super proud.”

Cox is carrying on a family tradition by attending LMU and playing for the Railsplitters, as her mother Becky Hudson Cox played basketball there in the 1990s.

Cox was surrounded by family, friends and golf teammates for her big day.

Both parents Becky and Richard Cox said they were “so very proud” of their daughter.

“This has been a long time coming. She started playing golf on the school level in the fifth grade at Jacksboro Middle School,” Becky Cox said. Her dad Richard said she had “worked hard over the years” to get to this point.

Cox is also on the CCHS Tennis Team and is also a CCHS Cheerleader. Tennis Coach Josh Parker said he “was super proud of her” and that he knew “Sadie was going to rock out at LMU.”

Cheer Coach Cara Beth Nidiffer said Cox had left her with “many memorable moments” and that she was a “strong leader.”

“Sadie will thrive in whatever she does,” Nidiffer said.

Grand parents Glenn and Winnie Hudson (near right) and Jerry and Margetta Cox (far left) attended Sadie Cox’s signing as well.

Golf Coach Michael Cain said he couldn’t be more proud of Cox and that it had been “awesome to have her on the golf team the last four years.”

“LMU is getting a lot of talent out of you. I couldn’t be more proud of you if you were my own,” Cain said.

Cox is excited for this opportunity and that she had “loved every minute” of her time on the golf team and other sports programs at CCHS.

“I’ve had great coaches and great teammates, and I’ve just loved every minute of it.”  (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 05/05/2022-6AM)
