Martha Wells, with the Lions Club, was one of the many folks who came out to build beds in September 2022.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – The final bed build of the year for Sleep in Heavenly Peace was successful. That was in November. It’s April and time for the first bed build for 2023. It’ll be windy on Saturday, but the rain will be gone by bed build time as friendly temperatures greet the volunteers.

The event will be held in the Woodson Mall-Food City Center parking lot on Saturday at 9am. “We’re hoping for 50 volunteers, and we will build 40 beds,” said Bill Thompson, president of the local chapter of SHP.

Thompson said volunteers don’t need to bring any tools, and they have to have any experience, just a willingness to help. “A big thanks goes to our sponsor, the Lions Club, along with Cross-Smith Funeral Home and New Horizon Baptist Church who are also donating to make this bed build a success.
