JELLICO, TN (WLAF) – A Kentucky man was arrested in Jellico last Thursday night. Campbell County Sheriff’s Detective Sgt. Gary Jeffers saw a Pontiac G6 with the passenger side headlight not functioning traveling south on North Highway 25W in Jellico.

Jeffers stopped the car on Siler Street and spoke to the driver, later identified as Jonathan Paul Smith. The driver gave Jeffers a Kentucky identification card; dispatch was able to confirm that Smith was an unlicensed driver. While Jeffers was speaking with Smith, he allegedly noticed an open can of Natural Light Beer in the center console to which the man admitted to consuming while he was driving, according to a report from the sheriff’s office.

Smith was also unable to provide proof of financial responsibility. A warrant check revealed that Smith had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear in Kentucky with in-state pick up only. Smith was arrested and transported to the jail.

Smith, 53, 8805 Old Mountain Ash Pike, Williamsburg, KY was charged with violation light law, driver’s license law, open container law and violation of TN financial law. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/24/2022-6AM)
