CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – The Town of Caryville employees will soon receive essential employee premium pay. Last night at the monthly meeting of the Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen, the board approved Resolution 2022-01. The resolution allocates $56,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act funds. Individuals who were employed with the town during March 2021 to March 2022 and are still employed with the town are slated to receive a one-time payment. The amount of payment depends on whether the individual was employed full-time or part-time.

Ordinance 2022-01 amending the annual operating budget for fiscal year 2021-22 was approved. The ordinance covers three items in the public works and sanitation department for $115,795. The police department had $51,000 (CORRECTION: This is $14,000 not $51,000, according Chief Brian Keeton) in budget amendments for overtime, equipment and operating supplies. Aldermen Eric Smith made a motion to strike the police department budget items from the ordinance, requesting Police Chief Brian Keeton attend next month’s meeting to discuss the items. All board members agreed.

Mitch Loomis was in attendance to discuss possible Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) for the town. Last year, the town applied for a grant to build a fire station at exit 141 but did not receive the grant. Loomis discussed with the board applying for a Community Revitalization Grant where proceeds could be used toward improvements at Asbury Park. He also discussed a grant from Project Diabetes. Loomis has submitted a letter of intent for the grant and should know next week if the town can apply or not. If the town applies for the grant and is awarded the grant, monies could be used for the new inclusive playground in Caryville.

Advertisement of bids for a used brush truck and a Cub Cadet zero turn 560 mower were approved. At last month’s meeting the board approved purchasing two set of aluminum bleachers for Asbury Park. Monday night the board approved two additional sets. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 03/15/2022-6AM)
