JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – It what was a season of “it’s been a long time since we’ve done that,” the Campbell County Cougars fell short in their effort to win a first round region game since 2001. Tonight on Brown Court, William Blount escaped with a 66-59 win to advance to the semi-finals of the Region 2-AAAA Tournament.

Campbell was led in scoring by Nate Walden’s 17 markers with Zac Brady dropping in 15 points followed by Devin Jones’ 10. Spencer Boshears tallied nine while John Long chipped in eight.

The Cougars dug a 17-point hole early trailing 33-16 before scoring the final eight points of the first half. Blount was ahead 33-24 at the break. Campbell caught the Governors at 57 with 2:20 left in the game, and then Blount fouled Long, and he missed the front end of a one and one. However, Long kept the ball alive off his miss, and Brady and Walden hit the deck after it. Walden was tied up, and the possession arrow kept the ball with the Cougars, but Campbell was not able to break the deadlock. Blount nailed a three on its next trip, did not relinquish its lead and held on for the seven point win.

Campbell concludes its season at 14 & 14. William Blount advances with a 21 & 11 record.

Special thanks to all of our corporate partners who make WLAF’s broadcasts of Campbell High Sports possible. Special appreciation goes to the Tiki Hut at Deerfield Marina, Joe and Emily Whited, for covering the TSSAA telecast clearance fee. It was another fun year of broadcasts with the team of Josh Parker, Aaron Hopkins, Warren Kitts, Matthew Moore and Casey Wilhoit, and we appreciate their dedication of following the Cougars and Lady Cougars.
