JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – Jacksboro Police Officer Jesse Ferguson was dispatched on a call about a pick-up truck driving poorly almost striking vehicles in the area of the Walmart. Just before midnight on Monday, Officer Ferguson was able to spot a red Toyota Tacoma traveling west on the four lane.

In the officer’s narrative, he details that the Tacoma was heading down the four lane past Dog Creek Lane toward Caryville, left the road and began driving in the median. Once the Tacoma allegedly crossed the centerline and jerked back over into the lane, Officer Ferguson began initiating a traffic stop. The officer pointed out that James William Lane, the man behind the wheel of the pick-up, was slow to respond to his cruisers blue lights and did not pull over until reaching the traffic light at Hwy 116 at Caryville.

When asked if he had been drinking, Lane allegedly stated yes and that he had had two mixed drinks with liquor. Officer Ferguson instructed Lane to step out of the truck and walk to the patrol car. As he did, he almost fell into traffic and the officer had to catch Lane from falling. Lane then used the cruiser to keep his balance and not fall.

Officer Ferguson deemed that Lane performed poorly during field sobriety tests and placed him under arrest for DUI (driving under the influence) and failure to maintain lane.

According to the report from the Jacksboro Police Department, this was the third time Lane has been arrested for DUI. Lane, 60, of Pilkey Lane-Caryville remains housed in the Campbell County Jail this morning and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/16/2022-6AM)
