JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – WLAF received a letter to the community this morning from Bill Rutherford. Rutherford is the Director of Environmental Services for Campbell County.

Good morning all,
I am writing this email to clear up some misinformation that has been brought to my attention regarding the commission workshop last night on 2-14-2022, and our recycle program here at Campbell County Environmental. We are currently recycling number 1 and number 2 plastics, steel and aluminum cans, and cardboard paper products here at our facility. The recycle center requires the county citizens to separate and sort the recycle items into the proper bins located at the center. The recycle center is also requiring the municipalities to separate recyclables in order to process them through the recycle center. I understand this has been a topic of debate on who will pay for the separating of recyclables when the municipalities bring in the recyclables to the recycle center, and the answer is simple, the county will take the separated recyclables from the municipalities and sort through them if the recyclables are not contaminated with waste. In the event that the that the recyclables are contaminated with waste the municipalities will be advised to go to the transfer station and the material will be disposed of as waste. The Environmental services does not know when or how the municipalities operate their recycle routes so with that being said the municipalities will notify our office staff of what material they are hauling and our staff will ask if it is recyclable. The commission received incorrect information last night regarding the recycling program here at the recycle center. Recyclable items has and will continue to be recycled at this facility.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
