CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Building improvements are coming to the Caryville Municipal Building. Monday night The Town of Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen reviewed bids for new flooring and ceiling tile.

Flooring is slated to be installed in all areas of the building except the library. Lindsey’s Carpet and Paint Center submitted a bid as did All Things Construction. The board chose the low bid of $9,900 from All Things Construction. Two bids were received for ceiling tiles. The first was from Dewayne Gibson and the second was from All Things Construction. The two bids were $80 apart with Gibson being the lower bid, however the board voted to accept the All Things Construction bid.

The HVAC unit in the police/fire departments has stopped working. The board received three quotes to replace the unit, two of the quotes were for more than $10,000. The third one came in under $10,000. Due to the unit not working, the board was able to declare an emergency purchase of a new unit from Allen Heating and Air for more than $10,000 without having to bid it out.

Asbury Park will soon have new bleachers. The board voted to purchase two sets of four row bleachers from Richardson Athletics for $8,006.23.

Mayor Bobby Stooksbury updated the board that the emergency siren been repaired and is operational. The board approved the purchase of a $1,200 four year maintenance contract on the siren. The contract will cover preventative maintenance and battery replacements. Stooksbury reported to the board that the dragon will soon be redone. Lansden Hill has agreed to fund the project and the original artist Jimmy Cole has agreed to do the restoration work in the spring.

Alderman Eric Jones expressed concern about seeing garbage piled up in front of residences and not being placed in garbage cans. After a brief discussion, the board agreed to have the sanitation department compile a list of residences not utilizing garbage cans. When the list is submitted, Codes Officer Lisa Crumpley will go out and speak with the individuals about the issue. The board approved the hiring of Richard Lawson as a full-time employee in the street/sanitation department.

Alderman Lloyd Lawson brought up the idea of a time capsule for the Town of Caryville. Lawson said he felt it would be a good way to preserve the history of the town. Stooksbury told Lawson to work on it and bring some ideas back to the board.

In the final business of the night, Bobby Adkins brought concerns about dogs on Walnut Street. Adkins was concerned about two different occasions where dogs had gotten loose. In one of the incidents, Adkins’ son was almost attacked by two dogs that had gotten out of a residence. The dog’s owner was able to prevent it. In the second incident, a dog had allegedly gotten out of a fence that had been hit by a tree. While the dog was loose it killed Adkins grandson’s dog. Stooksbury told Adkins he would have an officer come out Tuesday to discuss the issue. Town Attorney Adam Bullock reminded the board that the town does have a leash law.
