LAFOLLETTE, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) – For well more than forty plus years, the LaFollette Men’s Basketball League has competed at the same location; the old recreation center gym under the now LaFollette Library.

The league was started long ago by Buford Proffitt. Years later, Carl Rutherford ran the league, and now it is run by Chris Smith.

The Chris Stiner team won the LaFollette Men’s Basketball League regular season and tournament championship.

Seven men’s teams competed in this year’s league from all over Campbell County and beyond. Former Jellico Blue Devil and Campbell County Cougar greats were competing this season, and your winner is the Chris Stiner team. Stiner’s squad won over former Blue Devil Gage Hyslope’s team by a score of 68 – 65. These two teams also finished one and two in the regular season.

Greg Hyslope’s team claimed second place.
Chris Smith’s team claimed third place.

It’s great competition for those who still want to compete. Though this season is over, don’t worry. They will don the sneakers and gym shorts and go back at it next year. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 02/03/2022-6AM-PHOTOS COURTESY OF DAVID GRAHAM).
