OAK RIDGE, TN (WLAF) – If it’s ever been done, it was a long time ago; that is Campbell sweeping Oak Ridge on its home court in the girls and boys varsity basketball games. It didn’t happen last night, but both games did hang in the balance until near the end. Oak Ridge won 36-30 in the girls game while Top Ten Oak Ridge escaped 70 to 63 over the Cougars. Watch the games HERE on demand.

The Lady Cougars held leads but could not close the deal dropping to 4 & 4 in the district, with two district games to go, and 13 & 7 in all games. Karlie Whited was tops for Campbell with 11 followed by Cora Browning’s seven, six from Bella Lester and four from Saylor Hutcheson followed by two from Lacey Pemberton. Oak Ridge improves to 8 & 1 in the district to go with 13 overall wins and eight losses.

Campbell is still eyeing an automatic berth in the region tournament, and a win Tuesday at Oak Ridge would have gone a long way in securing that seed. Campbell is now 4 & 4 in District 3 AAAA games and an even 10 & 10 as the state ranked Wildcats improve to 18 & 3 with a perfect district mark of 9 & 0.

Nate Walden’s 18 points was most for Campbell as two other Cougars posted double-figures; Zac Brady 15 and Devin Jones 10. John Long added eight points as Spencer Boshears, who suffered a hard collision into the bleachers on a hustle play, finished with seven points. Bryson Horton tallied three, and David Adkins added two.

Campbell hosts West Thursday in a make-up game while the games at Central, postponed twice, are reset for Monday thus bumping the Knoxville Ambassadors game.
