LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Ordinances and Resolutions were the main item on Monday afternoon’s City of LaFollette Workshop Agenda.

Ordinance 2201-01 amends the City of LaFollette Code with respect to zoning and land use control. Section 14-104 states in addition to the membership requirements as set forth in TCA 13-4-101 et seq, it shall also be a requirement for any planning member to be a resident within the corporate limits of the City of LaFollette will have a final reading at this afternoon’s regular monthly meeting.

Ordinance 2022-02 will have its first reading. The ordinance levies a four percent privilege tax on any hotel/motel or any place in which rooms, lodging or accommodations are furnished. Angie Carrier with MTAS (Municipal Technical Advisory Services) was on hand Monday afternoon to explain the tax. The tax will be paid directly to city. Funds received are to be appropriated to the promotion and development of tourism.

The following seven ordinances and resolutions are slated to be voted on on Tuesday as well. Ordinance 2022-01 authorizes and provides the financing of construction of water facilities project. The project consists of a 12 inch water line through the Cedar Creek area. The project will cost approximately $500,000 and will be done in two phases. Resolution 2022-02 provides for the in lieu of tax payments from LaFollette Utilities, the total cost is $1,705,000. Resolution 2022-03 amending the 2021-22 budget for $2,000 for operating supplies for the police department. Two resolutions for the Transportation Alternatives Program will be voted on this afternoon. Resolution 2022-04 for administrative services and Resolution 2022-05 for engineering services. This grant will be for sidewalks toward West LaFollette. The Multimodal Access Grant Project will have Resolution 2022-06 for administrative services and Resolution 2022-07 for engineering services.

Two bids have been received for the card reader door locks for the municipal building. Howard’s Homes Services submitted a bid for $22,810.60 and East Tennessee Lock and Key for $25,610. The council will vote Tuesday afternoon on which bid to accept.

Paul Baxter a resident on Back Valley Road spoke to the council Monday about his traffic concerns. Baxter told council that he was concerned Back Valley Road was going to be used a detour for Hwy 63 during construction. Baxter reported that signs had been put up on Hwy 63 but were covered with trash bags. He came to council seeking extra police patrol in the area due to the narrowness and speed limit on the road.

A public hearing will be held today at 5:30pm at La Follette City Hall and will precede the city council meeting that is scheduled to approve the final passage of Ordinance 2022-01-Amendment to the La Follette Planning Commission Bylaws.
