PIONEER, TN (WLAF) – A call about a possible theft last week sent Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Phillips to a home on 212 Taylor Lane in Pioneer. But before he could get to his original destination, he was dispatched to 198 Taylor Lane. When Phillips arrived at the home, he spoke with two witnesses. The first witness alleged that her grandson Donald Ray Hicks had stolen her GMC Envoy. She reported that the vehicle was last seen in her driveway on Jan. 10 around 9 pm and when she woke up on Jan. 11 around 7:30 am, Hicks and her car were both gone.

While Phillips was at the home, a family member called and reported that Hicks was at their house on Hwy 297 Newcomb, according to a report from the sherriff’s department. Phillips went to the home in Newcomb and allegedly saw Hicks in the driver’s seat of the GMC Envoy attempting to leave. When Phillips spoke with Hicks, he said he had permission to use the vehicle and had stopped at the house and was going to take the car back to his grandmother.

Phillips spoke with the second witness who alleged her home was broken into. She reported that a Hart toolbox, Hart drill, impact drill, saw, three batteries and a battery charger were taken from her home. She believed that Hicks had taken the items from her home.

Hicks allegedly admitted to taking the items. He told Phillips he had put the drills somewhere but refused to disclose the location of the tools.

Hicks, 35, 188 Taylor Lane, Pioneer was charged with unauthorized use of auto/joyriding, aggravated burglary, and theft of property under $1,000.

Based on Campbell County Jail records, this was the unemployed Hicks’ 10th arrest. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/20/2022-6AM)
