LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – La Follette Police Officers were dispatched Sunday at 7:30 pm to the area around the Family Dollar in the old Woodson Shopping Center on Jacksboro Pike. The complaint was that there was a woman allegedly running around barefoot with a knife and screaming.

When officers arrived, they located 28- year- old Kelsey Breann Thompson, homeless, of Jacksboro across the four lane at a car lot standing on top of a silver Nissan Altima, according to a report from the La Follette Police Department. The roof of the car was allegedly dented by Thompson.

The report said that as officers attempted to talk Thompson into coming down from the car, she allegedly became aggressive swinging a board filled with nails in the officers’ direction. Thompson then jumped down from the car and allegedly continued to aggressively swing the board at the officers. Refusing to respond to multiple commands, Thompson then began to advance toward officers prompting one officer to deploy pepper spray based on the report. As officers were taking Thompson into custody, she allegedly struck two officers with the board causing lacerations on both of their wrists.

Thompson continued to resist officers after being handcuffed. According to the report, she allegedly kicked one of the officers in the legs.

It was also noted in the police report that Thompson continued to be combative with staff members at the Campbell County Jail. It was later discovered that the knife found near Thompson was allegedly stolen from the Family Dollar.

Thompson was charged with assault on a police officer, resist-stop-frisk-halt-search, disorderly conduct, PI (public intoxication), aggravated assault on a police officer (two counts), retail theft of merchandise and vandalism over $1,000.

Jail records reveal that this was Thompson’s seventh arrest, and that she is free on a $75,000 bond awaiting a January 25 court date. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/06/2022-6AM)
