CARYVILLE, TN (WLAF) – Little did a Caryville man realize that when he disobeyed deputies at the scene of a traffic accident and began cursing the officers, he drew enough attention to himself for the deputies to recognize him as a wanted man.

Mark Daugherty, 45,1154 Shady Cove Road, was traveling south on Highway 116 at 8:20pm on Christmas Eve when he drove upon a traffic accident that had the road down to one lane, according to a report from the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office. The report said Daugherty tried coming through the wreck area without being motioned to do so, and when Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Timothy Powers and Sgt. Joseph Weaver went to speak with Daugherty, Daugherty put his car in park, opened the door and started cursing.

Officers recognized Daugherty with knowledge of an arrest warrant for Daugherty. They had their hunch confirmed by officers at the Campbell County Jail that Daugherty did have a warrant out for his arrest. Daugherty was placed under arrest on the scene of the accident between Cupp’s Auto Parts and the Cherry Bottom underpass on Highway 116 at Ridgeview Circle.

Based on jail records, Daugherty is unemployed and was arrested for the fifth time. He has remained in the Campbell County Jail since Christmas Eve and is due in General Sessions Court tomorrow morning at 9am. Daugherty’s bond is set at $10,000, and his charges are capias/bench warrant and violation of probation out of General Sessions Court. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 01/03/2022-6AM)
