LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Local veteran and self-made-man David Hicks spoke about his recent book at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon on Tuesday.

“To Be Somebody” follows Hicks through his life growing up in Campbell County, his experiences in the Vietnam War and his many accomplishments after returning home.  After two years in the works, book author Jocelyn Woods-Griffo and Hicks unveiled the book in late November and have held several local book signings over the past couple weeks.

While speaking at Rotary, Hicks hit several highlights from the book, and explained why he had pursued the project.

David Hicks spoke at the South Campbell County Rotary Club luncheon about his recently published book detailing his life in Campbell County, his time in the military and his time in the ministry.

“I did this for my grandkids, so they could have their history and roots recorderd. This has been an amazing experience,” Hicks said, adding that he hopes the book serves as inspiration for others.

Griffo said it had been one of the most exciting projects she has been a part of.

The book also includes some wonderful history of the area.

“It’s a local treasure,” said LaFollette Librarian Nancy Green

The book is available for purchase at Katie’s Restaurant and at the LaFollette Library. All proceeds from sales go to local charities. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/15/2021-6AM)
