Local attorney Bill Jones announced his candidacy for Campbell County General Sessions Judge in the August 2022 election.

JACKSBORO, TN (SPECIAL TO WLAF) Local attorney Bill Jones has announced his candidacy for Campbell County General Sessions Judge in the August 2022 election.

Jones, a resident of Jacksboro, has been an attorney serving Campbell County for the last 13 years. Last month he was voted “Best Attorney in Campbell County” in the LaFollette Press’s Reader’s Choice Awards for 2021.

“It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve the people of Campbell County for all of these years as a trial attorney. I have been blessed with a successful career. I want to take all my knowledge, energy, and skill and use it to serve the people of this county as your next General Sessions Judge,” Jones said.

Jones intends on making many changes to how general sessions court is run, including incorporating a docket with cases scheduled on an hourly basis to prevent victims, witnesses, officers, and defendants from having to wait for hours to have their cases heard.  He also intends on starting a court program for veterans and defendants with mental health issues.  He hopes to bring divorce and other civil cases back to sessions court.

“It is so important to have consistent and fair rulings.” Jones said.  “Currently, attorneys and the public are afraid to file things in general sessions court. This has led to almost all divorce and many other civil cases being filed other courts. I hope to restore that confidence so that our sessions court can handle all of the cases intended for it and better serve the people of this county.”

In 2004 Jones graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then attended Cumberland School of Law where he fell in love with trial practice. In the last 10 years Jones has tried and won more cases before a jury than any attorney in the county. He has served as the president of the Campbell County Bar Association, and has served on the board of directors for the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys and the Roane State Paralegal Program.

“The last few years have been turbulent for our sessions court. I intend to bring stability, efficiency, and consistency to that office. I want the people of Campbell County to be proud of their judge,” Jones said. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 12/09/2021-6AM)
