LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Local veteran David Hicks held his first book signing at the LaFollette Library on Thursday for his newly published work “To Be Somebody; Life Story of a Man Called P. David Hicks.”

After two years in the works with local author Jocelyn Woods Griffo, Hicks has released the book on his life’s story. “This is a way for me to pass my life’s experiences and story down to my family,” said Hicks.

David Hicks and Jocelyn Woods Griffo collaborated on the book about Hicks’s life story, “To Be Somebody.” Both were present for Thursday’s book signing at the LaFollette Library.

The book reflects the determination of a Campbell County boy to not only survive, but thrive and leave behind a lasting legacy for his family and perhaps a blueprint to inspire others.

The book takes the reader on a journey that begins with the historical backdrop of coal mining and his upbringing in “strict poverty,” then into the hell of the Vietnam War and then forward again through Hick’s life accomplishments.

“This has been such a wonderful experience,” Hicks said at the event.

To obtain a copy of the book, email Hicks at pdhicks48@gmail.com. It should also become available at several local libraries. According to Griffo and Hicks, proceeds from the book sales will be donated to local charities.
