LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – On Monday afternoon, the LaFollette City Council met for the monthly workshop. On the agenda for the Tue., Dec. 7th meeting is the swearing in ceremony for Vice Mayor Phillip Farmer who will be sworn in that evening as mayor after council’s regular monthly meeting. At the same meeting, council will vote to appoint a council member to fill Farmer’s seat along with appointing a vice-mayor, beer board chairman and E-911 board member.

The railroad crossings at Brantley Lane and Gibson Lane have been discussed in previous council meetings and were again Monday. City Administrator Stan Foust told council that the cost of railroad safety improvements would be approximately $73,000. Councilman Mark Hoskins stated that he would like to see the road widened on Brantley Lane prior to installing the railroad safety equipment. The widening project could be done in house.

There are several ordinances and resolutions on the agenda for next week’s meeting. Resolution 2021-24 declares a vacancy on council due to ouster action against former Mayor Mike Stanfield. Resolution 2021-23 declares a vacancy on council due to Vice Mayor Phillip Farmer becoming mayor. Farmer will serve as mayor until the next election in Nov. 2022. Resolution 2021-22 for administrative services for Community Development Partners and Resolution 2021-21 for engineering services for FM and Associates, both resolutions are for the ARPA Water/Wastewater Funds. The final Resolution 2021-20 amending the 2021-22 budget for the Cherry Street project.

The annual Christmas Parade will be held on Sat., Dec. 4 at 2 pm. The annual employee Christmas dinner is scheduled for Wed., Dec. 15 at the Ball Farm. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/30/2021-6AM)
