Ahead of the La Follette Press’s long ago photo it’ll publish on Wednesday, November 24, here’s a WLAF classic photo of a game between La Follette and Jacksboro in December 1970. It’s interesting to note that the Owls are wearing their road orange jerseys while Jacksboro is clad in its home colors in the game that was played at La Follette. La Follette Owls in orange left to right are Mike Albright, Clarence “The Cat” Lowery, Jerry Gray and Curt Houston.  Gary Gray is leaping with Jacksboro’s Bill Queener, Number 44.  For the Jacksboro Eagles from left to right are David Russell, Coy Crutchfield, Ronnie Hyder and Number 22 Gary Aldridge.

LAFOLLETTE, TN (WLAF) – Wednesday’s La Follette Press “Throwback Thursday” photo is about basketball. “It’s a fun basketball photo from about 50-years ago, and it’s fitting as we start basketball season,” said former Jacksboro Eagle Star David Russell.

Russell had the clipping from the Press from February 1971 and pitched the idea to the staff. Look for the classic photo in tomorrow’s edition of the La Follette Press. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/17/2021-6AM-UPDATED 11/17/2021-1PM-UPDATED 11/23/2021-9AM)

  1. Lafollette won, but it was a great game. Jacksboro had some talented players. David Russell was fantastic at guard for Jacksboro. The house was packed.
