Wlaf1450TAZEWELL, TN (WLAF) – The Lady Cougars of Campbell High came out of the gate with a scoring flurry just like the many fans who came out had hoped to see. The Cougars, however, were another story though that soon changed after spotting home standing Claiborne an 8-2 to lead.
Seniors Cora Browning and Nate Walden led their respective teams with Browning totaling 18 points while Walden tallied 24; 16 in the first half. Walden’s driving lay up to the front of the basket with 58-seconds left before halftime pushed him over the 1,000 point barrier in the season opener. Click HERE to see the games on demand from WLAF. The Lady Cougars won 56-37. The score book reads: Cora Browning 18, Bailey Gillum 9, Kiley Davis 6, Saylor Hutcheson 5, Karlie Whited 5, Carley Kitts 4, Emma Brandenburg 4, Lacey Pemberton 3 and Bella Lester 2.
The Cougars scored 49 second half points leading to their 90-59 victory. The score book looks like this: Nate Walden 24, John Long 16, Spencer Boshears 10, Zac Brady 10, Devon Jones 10, Bryson Horton 9, Riley Faulkner 4, Jack Leach 3, David Adkins 2 and Elijah McKinney 2.
The Cougar JVs won 47-31.
Campbell County next plays at Maynardville in the Union Thanksgiving Classic.
Friday, November 26 – Cougars vs. Scott at 1pm followed by the Lady Cougars vs. Gibbs at 2:30pm
Saturday, November 27 – Lady Cougars vs. Union at 4pm with the nightcap of the Cougars vs. Union at 5:30pm.
