JACKSBORO, TN (WLAF) – A red Chevy Cruise failing to maintain its lane multiple times in the 3 am hour prompted a routine traffic stop by Campbell County Sheriff’s Deputy Preston Mullins.

When Mullins attempted to stop the compact car, the driver continued for approximately two tenths of a mile before crossing over into the median. He then traveled about two tenths of a mile before stopping, according to a report from the sheriff’s department.

The driver was identified as Tommy Garrett, and Mullins could allegedly smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car as he made contact with Garrett. When asked for his driver’s license, Garrett could only provide an identification card. Mullins checked the status of Garrett’s license, it came back as revoked for DUI.

Mullins asked Garrett to perform field sobriety tests. A clear plastic bag containing a large quantity of blue pills allegedly fell from Garrett’s right pant leg as this request was made. Garrett noticed the bag fall and stepped on the bag to conceal it. The deputy was able to retrieve the bag that contained approximately 30 blue pills believed to be Clonazepam.

A search of Garrett’s vehicle allegedly revealed a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance thought to be marijuana under the driver’s seat. In the center of the console, Mullins found $8,902 in US currency.

Garrett, 36, Speedwell, was charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under influence (DUI), possession of substance with intent to mfg/sell/deliver, possession of marijuana, drivers to exercise due care, violation implied consent law, destruction of evidence and driving while revoked. He is due in court on Thursday. (WLAF NEWS PUBLISHED – 11/15/2021-6AM)
